Want less stress?

Reader, these tips are πŸ”₯

This week's #ShowUpPositive Spark, BEHOLD, is inspired by my colleague Gary.

Childhood was my introduction to the word behold. The contextual use was something of magnificence or splendor.

Thus, I always interpreted behold to mean see something amazing had to be present.

Then I met Gary during one of my early LinkedIn audio events, Talk Me Off the Ledge, and he opened my eyes to a whole new perspective.

BE = Present, attentive; HOLD = Pause, be still.

BEHOLD was not about the subject of my attention, but about my action.

BEHOLD meant be still and present.

Reader, with the holiday season fast approaching, you have a precious few weeks to prepare yourself mentally.

It is so easy to get caught up in the objects - finding the perfect gifts, Instagram worthy decorations, etc., leading to stress, frustration, disappointment, and resentment.

In the striving for perfection, you miss out on the restorative meaningfulness you really need and is possible when the emphasis is on being still and present - BEHOLD.

In September I lost my Dad. My 22 year old has launched her career and life in another city and a highschool senior about to leave for college.

My life circumstances are highlighting the importance of taking time to BEHOLD.

You never get time back, and you will never regret pausing to take in those precious moments.

So, I offer you the following tips for starting your BEHOLD practice now, so it is more automatic during the holiday hustle.

  • Select 2-3 routine morning activities (sipping a hot beverage, eating breakfast, commuting, etc.)
  • During those activities, pause and mindfully breathe three times while being attentive to the people or environment around you.
  • Identify one thing in that moment for which you are grateful.
  • Smile, breathe, and sit in gratitude for three more breaths.
  • Repeat the above each time you convene with friends and family.
  • BONUS: Create a behold journal to capture what you saw, felt, and the gratitude you experienced.

Once you practice this a few times, anytime you are feeling overwhelmed, stressed out, or frazzled, you can choose to pause, breathe, and BEHOLD.

You'll be amazed at how this simple practice can become the magic reset button you need.

What challenge of your worthiness does your inner critic play constantly in your head? Shame Rejection Unworthiness I have considered myself a strong, confident, and accomplished person throughout my life. Yet, the smallest glimmer of negative feedback can unleash the look from Miranda and I am in a spiral of shame,...

Reader I had a profound moment over Thanksgiving thanks to my eldest daughter. It's after 8 PM on Thanksgiving. I'm in the front passenger seat. My husband is driving, and my daughters are in the back seat. We are in an upscale neighborhood where we've been enjoying our Thanksgiving feast at a friend's home. Many homes are already lit with Christmas lights. We turn onto the main thoroughfare and there are four houses in a row with the same commercial style lights outlining the front of the...
